Frequently Asked Questions
What does paying a fee to Professional Publishing Services (PPS) buy me?
Professional Publishing Services is offering authors the benefit of our many years’ experience in publishing and providing authors with access to the services that we use for our own publishing. We charge a fee for providing these services to cover the cost of the service and the cost of our time in administering the provision of the service. We also charge fees for our consultancy services based on an hourly rate.
Do I have to buy a complete package of services?
No. We don’t insist that you buy a package of services. We produce a customised quotation based on the services you would like to buy from us or from third-party suppliers through us.
Will I have to sign a contract with PPS?
No. We won’t ask you to sign a contract. After a discussion about your book and the services you would like to buy, we send you a quotation and ask you to sign and return a copy of the quotation as your agreement to pay for the services provided and your acceptance of our Terms & Conditions. For work valued at more than £100 we will ask you to pay a 10% deposit up front, which will then be deducted from the amount on your final invoice when the work is completed.
Will I be asked to assign any rights to PPS?
No. You retain all the rights to your own work – we won’t ask you to license or assign any rights to us.
Will I be the publisher of my own book?
Yes if you are buying any of the My Book My Way services. You are registered as the publisher of your book when you buy your ISBNs.
Does PPS retain a percentage of my revenue from sales or pay me a royalty?
No. You receive 100% of the revenue from sales of your book. PPS does not sell books for authors and we don’t control the revenue from an author’s book sales.
Will PPS promote and sell my book for me?
No. You are responsible for the promotion and sales of your book – we can provide you with advice and any support that you may need in return for a fee but, as we are not the publisher of your book, we do not promote your book for you.
What are your Terms and Conditions?
Full Terms and Conditions are provided in our quotation for specified services. However, there are three key conditions on which our service offering is based:

What are your Terms and Conditions?
Full Terms and Conditions are provided in our quotation for specified services. However, there are three key conditions on which our service offering is based:
- We reserve the right to refuse to provide a service. We will refuse to provide services if the proposed book contains content that is illegal, abusive or stolen such as, for example, content that is libellous, obscene, plagiarised, and content that includes incitement to violence or other illegal acts, is racist, sexist and/or is offensive to other ethnic or religious minorities.
- We bear no responsibility or liability for an author’s breaches of copyright, copyright fees incurred and copyright material that is used without permission. Also, as we are not the publisher of a self-published work, we cannot be responsible for defending the author against breaches of their copyright in the work they have published. However, we can provide advice on how to avoid breaches of copyright and on how to seek permission to use copyright material.
- None of the services we offer will guarantee that an author will receive an offer of a publishing contract, will receive a higher than average royalty, will sell any copies of their work, will receive positive reviews, etc. There are no guarantees in publishing – it is a risky business and even traditional publishing companies often fail to see a return on their investment in individual titles. We make no promises of success and authors publish at their own risk, but we can help you to reduce the risk and increase your chances of success as much as possible.
