Book Proposal Consultancy
A well-written proposal that provides the publisher with all the information they require is more likely to rise to the top of the submissions pile. Publishers receive a great many unsolicited proposals from authors and most of these proposals are rejected for the following reasons:
Authors need to do some preparation work before submitting a book proposal to a publisher and we can help you with this preparation. As professional publishers we have considered, accepted and rejected many submissions from authors so we have the inside track on what commissioning and submissions editors are looking for. Therefore, we can provide you with advice and support to help you to prepare a high quality submission. Of course, we cannot guarantee or promise that your book will be accepted for publication (the decision is not ours to make) but we can increase your chances of success.
Consultancy rate: £35 per hour (inc. VAT). Because book proposals vary enormously, please contact us for a quotation.
- the proposed book does not fit with the publishing company's publishing strategy - this is the reason why most book proposals are rejected;
- the book proposal is poorly presented and the text includes a lot of spelling and grammatical errors - a poorly presented proposal gives a very bad initial impression and suggests that the author's typescript is also going to be of poor quality (which means it will be time-consuming to work on and therefore expensive to produce);
- the author has given no consideration to the target audience/market for his or her book - there is no evidence of any market research, no indication of market understanding and therefore no rationale for the proposed book;
- the proposed book is very similar to existing publications - there is nothing unique or different about it so promoting the book will be difficult.
